A bridal appointment can sometimes seem a little intimidating, but we assure you at Hummingbird Bridal Studio it is nothing but enjoyable! To help you feel confident before your visit we have put together a little information guide for our Hummingbirds.
APPOINTMENT IS A MUST
We work with one bride at a time so that we can give you our undivided attention and the best service possible. You’ll have full run of the shop so you can have a relaxing and intimate experience! Our standard appointment is 90mins from start to finish, however we can offer shorter or longer appointments on request. Under special circumstances, we can offer out of hours appointments should the opening hours be unattainable- please enquire for more details and availability.
THE RIGHT TIME TO LOOK FOR YOUR WEDDING DRESS
The sooner the better! Come to see us at the latest 9 months before your big day, but any earlier is really all the better for you. When it comes to wedding dress shopping all designer gowns are made to order especially for you, so you will need to allow time for it to be lovingly stitched. Leaving it last minute can cause unnecessary stress, so as soon as you are ready to start looking no matter how far in advance, let us know! We will always go above and beyond to help our brides, however please be aware our lead time is up to 20 weeks. Some designers provide rush orders, however please note these do come at a small additional fee and are not always guaranteed to suit your needs.
All our gowns in store are samples. Once you select your gown, a new one will be made just for you. Our samples in store range in size from (UK) 8 to 14 , but our gowns are available in UK sizes 2-22, depending on designer. Remember, our samples will rarely fit anyone like a glove, but your stylist for the appointment is highly trained and experienced in garment technology, so will walk you through exactly how each style will fit you when it is your size and correctly proportioned to your body, plus any alterations that can take place once your dress has arrived. Bespoke options are offered by most designers. Please bare in mind that bridal is sized very different to high street sizing and do run quite small so should you have any sizing queries prior to your appointment please contact us.
Your gown may need slight tweeks after the dress has arrived with us and this is completely normal. We recommend an out of house, highly trained and incredibly skilled seamstress who can take you through this simple process with confidence and hold private alteration appointments within their own equipped studio. This process usually requires 12 weeks as standard, all determined on the arrival of your gown, and is an additional cost so ensure you factor this in to your budget. Alternations and alteration appointments are arranged strictly between the bride and the seamstress following the arrival of you gown.
We welcome everyone to our store and can accommodate for numbers of up to 4 additional guests in our spacious studio, however we would kindly recommend through experience that you keep your numbers to a select few family members/close friends, because too many opinions can easily overwhelm and confuse the appointment quite quickly - plus we want the ONE to be a beautiful surprise on the big day!
BUDGET AND PRICE POINT
A REALLY important preparation, and we find it's best to keep budget in mind when making your selections to try on. Be sure to prepare your price point ahead of the appointment, and it also helps to discuss this with your entourage too so that they know what to keep in mind. Our gowns currently range between £1500-£6000. Remember, your big day deserves distinction and our price points reflect quality fabrics, couture design, impeccable hand finished detailing and ultimate fit - We strongly urge brides a good look at our website and at Designers to ensure you are happy with the price points before booking as we will never put a bride in a gown out of budget unless we agree this is sensible so that we can work within the comfortable range and find the perfect dress for the big day.
FINDING ‘THE ONE’
Keep an open mind and try on an assortment of different styles and silhouettes, however we encourage you to follow your own bridal vision and embrace your own unique flair. Our aim is to make each bride shine with confidence, and your stylist is here to listen, guide and provide as much helpful information as possible. But do not be deterred if what you thought you wanted isn’t initially working – the majority of brides will come in with an idea of what they think they want, only to fall in love with a totally different style! That being said, it is always useful to do a little research before you arrive to look at shapes, colours and even fabrics that catch your eye, as well as any wedding vibes you want to embody on your big day, so that we can have a great starting point when selecting pieces. Don't be afraid to say YES to the dress - when you find the one the excitement really starts!
PREPARATION AND WHAT TO BRING
We would advise our brides to wear suitable nude underwear to their appointment, and for the sake of our delicate gowns, kindly avoid wearing heavy makeup, instant fake tan or jewellery that could soil or damage our gowns. We must advise the stylist will use judgement and reserves the right to refuse appointment should excessive fake tan or products be worn to the detriment of the designer gowns.
We want you to feel your best whilst trying on so any TLC prior to appointment is always beneficial – and what a perfect excuse for a little bit of pampering!
Bring along any venue information, dress images, as well as any colour swatches or web photos that better describe your day, as we would love to see them to inspire the appointment and offer styling suggestions.
